Part 1 Backpacking Boots by Nutnfancy
In this series I cover key features of backpacking boot construction to help you in your purchase decision. I may have left some things out but I cover the important parts. I don't review specific boots and probably won't ever: models change frequently and it's just logistically impossible for me now. Using the info I provide here just give a good basis for getting the right heavy duty hiking boot. ** Please do not PM me with questions about specific boot models and what would be good for ...

im into Lowa boots, because i love my feet and those are manufactured in Europe. And they arent releasing new models every month, trying to outsmart the dull.

boots are for pussies, go barefoot.
I remember when I had to buy my combats for field exersises when I was in the Cadets (as the seniors wore them) My boots that I happend to get were a couple sizes teo big. the first time out, my feet were in absoulute pain. But I tripple layered the Wool Socks to make them fit better and after that no problems. What surprised me was how water resistant they were. If I can find a another pair that is relitivly new in my size I woll pick them up rightaway as they are good in the snow.
Paracord makes the best boot laces you can get. Just cut to length and make sure you melt the ends so it does not fray

Great Review so far.
Fit = everything.
I spend a ton of time in the woods and i’d much rather go barefoot than have boots that don’t fit. splinters and cuts heal faster and are less debilitating than bone compression wounds.
rooftopeagle.
you can cut canvas or leather to cover your laces and take the beating for them. Use light wire to stitch it into your boot lace-holes with your laces.
you can also replace laces with para cord. then if you tear anything it will be your boot, not your lace.
I HATE buying boots or shoes in general. I wear a size 14-15 and no-one carries that size. I Tried buying a pair of boots online from a major distributer and they sent me a baseball shirt by accident. Don’t ask me how. I no longer buy shoes online. Any ideas on where to buy large boots/shoes?

I love Zamberlan boots, they are expensive, but unreal in how long they last.
Blundstone! Ask for them by name!

I’m sorta in the same boat. I wear something between a 9 and 9 1/2 and boot never fit me either. They’ll always be too loose or too tight,
Try an Army surplus store. It worked for me.
